Food and Beverage Import Licence
Description & Legal Basis
The Food and Beverage Import Licence is required for all businesses and individuals seeking to import food and beverage products into Trinidad and Tobago. This licence ensures that imported food products meet local health and safety standards.
This licence is issued under the authority of the Food and Drugs Act, Chapter 30:01 and the Trade Ordinance Act of Trinidad and Tobago.
Controlled HS Codes
This licence covers products under the following HS code categories:
- Chapter 02: Meat and edible meat offal
- Chapter 03: Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates
- Chapter 04: Dairy produce; birds' eggs; natural honey
- Chapter 07: Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers
- Chapter 08: Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons
- Chapter 09: Coffee, tea, maté and spices
- Chapter 16: Preparations of meat, of fish or of crustaceans
- Chapter 19: Preparations of cereals, flour, starch or milk; pastrycooks' products
- Chapter 20: Preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants
- Chapter 21: Miscellaneous edible preparations
- Chapter 22: Beverages, spirits and vinegar
Special Notice
Effective July 1, 2025, all food importers must also register with the Food Safety Authority's digital tracking system. This is in addition to obtaining the import licence.
